22/01/11 - Horse Training .org News Posts Back Online!
Hi Everyone!
Well it has been a long time since the last horse training .org newsletter.
We have had problems with our website program blogger who changed uploading methods back in April. Well we have finally got it sorted out. Apologies for the delay.
Since the last post Astro and I went to selection trials for the World Equestrian Games Aussie team. The selection trials were in Toowoomba in June 2010 and Sydney at SIEC in July. I drove down to the events with Astro in the horse float. Driving from Kuranda in North QLD I was accompanied by Marita Hird, friend and strapper extrodinaire and our dogs Yoda, Kit and Leo.
Astro and I narrowly missed out on selection onto the WEG team. (By less than .5%!)
Although it was dissapointing to miss out on team selection, it was also very rewarding to see how far Astro has progressed in such a short time. It is also exciting to see how much potential Astro has as an international dressage horse. Astro is an amazingly athletic horse and very well bred, being by Larundel Gandalf out of a Skies Above holsteiner mare. Astro's natural athleticism combined with the motivating power of clicker training has produced some phenomenal performances from Astro. He voluntarily offers the most amazing movement, power, lightness and suppleness all for a click every now and then and a few pellets.
Clicker training is the way of the future, it will go mainstream in the next few years. If you want to find out for yourself just try it, buy my book How to Click With Your Horse, and you will find yourself able to train your horse into your dream horse, with your horse a willing and eager partner.
I would really like to thank everyone who helped with my WEG campaign. In particular: Marita Hird, Carolyn Lieutenant, Bronwyn Cooper, Maree Fitzpatrick, Andrew Lewis, Ingrid Bayly, Matty Sormani, Julia Battams, Sally Francis & W Dressage Stables.
Marita Hird has purchased a new horse Kalimna Prestige (also known as Pete).
Marita and Pete are starting their campaign together towards London Paralympic Games 2012. Georgia and Larundel Gameboy along with Marita and Kalimna Prestige with be aiming towards selection trials for the London team.
We wish Marita and Pete all the best in their journey together. No doubt it will be a wonderful journey as they are already Clicking together!
We are currently in the middle of the wet season or monsoon in North Qld Australia.
Makes horse training a little difficult. Though there is still so much you can do with your horse just in the stable with a clicker. You could introduce your horse to clicker training, teach step 1. Look Away, Step 2. Head Down, Step 3. Backwards
Step 4. Targeting...Stepping forwards and backwards. Picking up feet. Targeting Objects. Rolling a Ball. Targeting the halter. Targeting the bridle and bit...
so much to do without even moving anywhere!
Anyway hope you all have a wonderful and safe new year. May your horses get lots of clicks in 2011!!
Happy Clicker Training!
from Georgia
